LAS VEGAS – People from all over the country love Las Vegas, so why not ask them to move here? That’s the angle Recruiting Nevada is taking when marketing to out-of-state jobseekers.

“We’ve taken our recruitment efforts to the next level. The efforts are getting both smarter and more effective,” said Doug Geinzer, president and founder of Recruiting Nevada, a company already recognized for its efforts to solve the nursing and teacher shortages. “People always want to vacation to Las Vegas, so we are using that interest to our advantage, which is critical in today’s tightening labor market.”

This effort, which is already attracting out-of-state potential employees to Las Vegas, not only allows visitors to experience first-hand what living in Southern Nevada is actually like, but it also saves the state high travel costs usually incurred when recruiting in other states, or as Geinzer refers to it, doing “road shows.”

“This system offers something for all parties involved,” Geinzer said. “Potential jobseekers enjoy a discounted trip to Las Vegas, and employers have potential employees coming straight to them. Additionally, Southern Nevada’s economy benefits from the extra tourist dollars.”

Beta testing on discounted reservations for jobseekers looking to relocate to Nevada is already underway. Recruiting Nevada partnered with VEGAS.com – the nation’s premier Vegas travel Web site, which reports more than 2.5 million unique visitors to its Web site monthly – to expand the reach of Nevada’s recruitment efforts.

Recruitment efforts nationwide have increased, as the country’s overall unemployment rate is approximately 4.4 percent. Regardless, Recruiting Nevada has seen much success marketing the high quality of living Southern Nevada has to offer – a good thing considering several other states, and even countries, are also vying for a portion of the United States’ professional pool.

“We are lucky to live in a place like Las Vegas because it sells itself,” Geinzer said. “Through our recruitment efforts over the past few years, hundreds of people, especially from California, have moved to Nevada to enjoy everything it has to offer.”

Geinzer said the city’s biggest selling points include access to several higher education opportunities, good weather, affordable housing, quality health care and an overall high quality of living.

All qualities that are also attracting another target market to Nevada jobs: the semi-retired worker.

“Semi-retired people come to Las Vegas largely looking for warm weather, quality health care and lower taxes,” Geinzer said. “However, even though they are retired, they aren’t ready to quit working completely. This is a huge market that several local companies are finding success in recruiting.”

To support Recruiting Nevada’s online efforts – which also includes the marketing of hundreds of Nevada jobs through the company’s main Web site, NVJobSearch.com, Recruiting Nevada has partnered with Greenspun Media Group, The News, In Business Las Vegas and Nevada Broadcasters Association to host local career fairs.

Spring Job Fair 2007 – a career fair that actively attracts out-of-market jobseekers to Nevada jobs – will take place Wednesday, March 28, at the Green Valley Ranch from 12:30-4:30 p.m.

Marketed by Recruiting Nevada, the last career fair attracted 2,300 jobseekers – 450 in which flew to Las Vegas from out-of-state.
