LAS VEGAS – The Opportunity Boulevard Job Fair 2007 attracted more than 3,100 jobseekers – nearly 600 in which came to Las Vegas from out-of-state – to learn about employment opportunities in Nevada June 26 at the Green Valley Ranch Resort.
Marketed by Las Vegas-based Recruiting Nevada, the job fair attracted professionals in much-needed career fields. In fact, out of the 890 pre-registered attendees, there were: 130 health care professionals, 56 educational professionals, 28 construction professionals, 14 engineering professionals, 56 accounting professionals and 34 technology professionals.
An additional more than 2,200 people who did not pre-register attended the fair as well. Some of those people got jobs as nurses on the spot and will now be moving to Nevada.
“A turnout of this size and with such a high caliber of applicants says a lot about our community,” said Doug Geinzer, founder of Recruiting Nevada. “Despite recent reports that Southern Nevada’s growth is slowing down, the Las Vegas Valley is still more cost-effective and offers a much higher quality of life that many people, especially Southern Californians, are attracted to.”
Recruiting Nevada, in partnership with Greenspun Media Group, The News, In Business Las Vegas, Nevada Broadcasters Association and AARP-Nevada, has made it its goal to be the driving force in a serious effort to solve Nevada’s critical employment shortage.
Meant to reduce cannibalization of one another’s talent within Nevada, attract the right out-of-state people to fill open Nevada jobs and help trailing spouses and family members find jobs, the fairs will continue to target out-of-state professionals and older workers.
The group will host four career fairs each year to attract professionals to Nevada jobs. The next fair, Summer Job Fair 2007, will take place Thursday, Aug. 23 from 12:30-4:30 p.m. at Green Valley Ranch Resort – located at 2300 Paseo Verde Parkway, just off S. Green Valley Parkway and Interstate 215.
